According to Variety, Wonder Woman has officially become the highest grossing summer film at the domestic box office. Grossing $389 million, the DC Comics film from Warner Bros. has surpassed the previous leader, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” ($387 million). Though in global box office sales, Guardians is still the leading comic movie of 2017 beating the Gal Gadot leading film, $860 million versus $779 million so far.
Wonder Woman is the fourth highest-grossing film of 2017 behind only Disney’s live adaption of Beauty and the Beast ($1.26B), The Fate of the Furious ($1.24B) & Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($860M).
Wonder Woman has been an unheralded success for DC/WB including a launch of $103.1 million during its opening weekend, being universally praised by critics and earning a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Comics announced a sequel to the Gal Gadot led superhero film during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
