Twitter Announces New Premium Video Partnerships
Twitter is looking to dramatically build up its video content offerings. In doing so, they announced that they have agreed to 14 new, renewed or expanded deals for live premium content partners. Participants of the deal include Major League Baseball, the NFL, Viacom, the WNBA, BuzzFeed, Bloomberg Media, Live Nation and the PGA.
The new deals and collaborations will deliver hundreds of hours of exclusive content to Twitter; including live sports, concerts, news and entertainment. Viacom will broadcast its various award shows including the MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Movie and TV Awards and other content. This all follows the news that Twitter and Bloomberg Media plan to launch a 24-hour news channel.
Twitter is hoping that the new live content will help with their steady decline from the last few years. In recent years the social media giant has had to layoff part of its workforce due to declining revenue. Twitters drop in popularity also saw the company kill of the Vine app. Twitter’s highest-profile live event programming so far has been NFL’s “Thursday Night Football” last fall.
