2017 continues to be Tiffany Haddish’s breakout year after making history in Girl Trip by being featured in the first all black film to surpasses the $100 million mark and appearing at ‘Def Comedy Jam 25‘. She will make history one more time before the year is over by becoming the first black woman to host SNL in the show’s history. Haddish will reportedly host SNL on Nov. 11, with Taylor Swift handling music duty.
She announced the news on Instagram. “This Saturday, 11/11 on #SNL!! Can you believe I will be the very #first black female comedian host?!? #SheReady,” she stated.
Having aired for 42 years you would have thought that SNL would have been previously hosted by a black comedian at least once, but doesn’t seem to be the case. The likes of Regina Hall, Whoopi Goldberg, Tracee Ellis Ross, Wanda Skyes & Mo’Nique have never appeared on SNL.
SNL has been hosted by numerous black actresses like Queen Latifah, Kerry Washington, Octavia Spencer & Taraji P. Henson. Even past cast members including Maya Rudolph & Leslie Jones, who have found success since leaving have not been invited back to host.
