Via Variety: HBO is giving the documentary treatment to Steven Spielberg chronicling his nearly 50-year career.
Entitled “Spielberg,” the documentary is directed and produced by “American Masters” alum Susan Lacy. The documentary is set to air Oct 7. “Spielberg” will look at Steve’s rise to one of the most popular directors and producers in film history. With the unadjusted gross of all Spielberg-directed films exceeding $9 billion worldwide, it would make him the highest-grossing director in history. In his nearly five decade career, “Spielberg” won the Academy Award for Best Director for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, while receiving five other nominations.
Lacy conducted more than 30 hours of interviews with the renowned filmmaker for the feature-length doc. Among the notables who contribute insights on Spielberg are J.J. Abrams, Christian Bale, Drew Barrymore, Cate Blanchett, etc.
“Spielberg” will be HBO’s second documentary this year looking at the storied career of an entertainment icon. On July 9, they premiered their Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine documentary, The Defiant Ones.
