We continue “The Resurgence of The Girl Groups” series with the East Coast Edition featuring acts from Boston, New York and D.M.V. (DC/Maryland/Virginia). These girl groups are eager to help usher in a new era of music. They noticed that music at times is missing the enjoy and excitement that once made it great. With raw emotion, confidence and determination these women are ready to make music great again while touching your soul.
Main Girl was formed in 2008 on the principle of introducing a new kind of girl group into a new era of music. Collectively comprised of Shabreia, Deja, & Jahna; Main Girl combines the charm, charisma and extravagant style, of all the classic female groups, that came before them. Main Girl shows a confidence and determination to leave their mark on music history while blending a multitude of styles including Hip-Hop, Pop, Gospel, R&B and Jazz. Music has become their outlet for “express themselves straight from their hearts”. Main Girl has won numerous awards including being named “Best Female Group” at the 2010 DMV Entertainment Music Awards and “Viewers Choice for Best Group” at the 2011 BET Blaze the Stage Concert in NYC. They recently released their newest mixtape #MG3.
Girls Nite Out
Girls Nite Out (GNO) is a quintet based out of Boston, MA comprised of Katie, Dana Mac, Sharitza Pardo, Argenis and Alexa Cahill. GNO is described as presenting an “infectious sound which is a blend of pop laden hooks with a touch of soul and the beat driven sounds of UK Garage and urban dance.” Girls Nite Out has worked with multi platinum producers while performing with some of music’s top artist including Ke$ha, Big Time Rush, & JLS. The girls are signed to Smash Pop Records and slated to release their first single “The Nerd” late this Spring along with a music video. They are performing at this years Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl in Boston on June 9th. It’s the nation’s largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival which has raised more than $5 million for cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since its inception in 1983.
Love Jones Girlz
Based out of New York City is pop/urban group Love Jones Girlz containing Claire Jones and Taylor Nirvana Jones. Described as “sexy, fierce young women whose time is now”, Love Jones Girlz is ready to explode onto the music scene. The girls pride themselves on their ability to sing, dance and act. Love Jones Girlz has accomplished quite a bit at their young age. They have been featured on BET’s 106 and Park, joined Taco Bell’s “Feed The Beat” Campaign, opened for the likes of Migos and Mindless Behavior all while winning the Faces in the Crowd showcase. Love Jones Girlz is slated to release their debut album NC-17 (Faces in the Crowd/RED (Sony)) in 2016. The album is depicted as, “showing raw emotion and their growth, not only as artists and songwriters, but as young women unwilling to shy away from grown-up themes and issues.” The first single off the album is “M.A.N.D.S. (She Hustlin’),” an acronym representing “She Don’t Need A Man” spelled backwards. The single is “an infectious anthem dedicated to girls and women around the world who are determined to hustle hard and not let anyone get in their way.” With NC-17 on the horizon, the girls are ready to share their “love jones” with everyone.
