Confirmed by Variety; Ava DuVernay, Charles D. King, and Victoria Mahoney will adapt Octavia E. Butler‘s sci-fi novel ‘Dawn’ into a television series. “Dawn” tells the story of an African-American woman who works with aliens to resurrect the human race 250 years after a nuclear war. ‘Dawn’ is part of a collection of works known as Lilith’s Brood which includes the novels Adulthood Rites, and Imago. The three volumes in the series were previously collected in the now out of print volume, Xenogenesis.
Butler died in 2006, and this will be the first time the award-winning author’s work has been adapted for television. Kim Roth, Poppy Hanks, Allen Bain, Gary Pearl, Thomas L. Carter, and Teddy Smith will join DuVernay and King as EPs, with Forward Movement, Oil & Cattle and Bainframe as additional producers.
Ava DuVernay is currently working on the adaption of another novel, but this time it’s on the big screen. Set to arrives in theaters on March 9, 2018, Ava is adapting a live action version of Madeline L’Engle‘s 1962 novel A Wrinkle in Time for Disney. The film will co-star Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon.
