Via Variety; Armie Hammer has joined the cast of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Biopic ‘On the Basis of Sex’. Hammer is set to play Marty Ginsburg, Ruth’s husband, “as they team up to bring the first landmark gender discrimination case before the Supreme Court.” This comes after Variety first announced that Felicity Jones will portray Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Natalie Portman was originally attached to the project for at least four years while the film project was stuck in development.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ginsburg was appointed by President Bill Clinton. She is the second female justice to be confirmed to the Court (after Sandra Day O’Connor), and one of four female justices to be confirmed (with Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, who are still serving).
Armie’s character, Martin David Ginsburg was an internationally renowned taxation law expert. He was a Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. and of counsel to the law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. Ginsburg passed away in 2010.
The movie is slated for release in 2018 in order to coincide with Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary as a Supreme Court Justice.
